The Schubert Center welcomes Dr. Hirokazu Yoshikawa, Courtney Sale Ross, University Professor of Globalization and Education at NYU Steinhardt as our featured speaker for this year's Kessler-Freedheim Lecture.

 

 

 

A light lunch will be served.

Dr. Yoshikawa will examine how inequalities in early childhood contribute to vastly different adult outcomes.  Dr. Yoshikawa will offer evidence-based suggestions for policy changes that, when applied at scale, chart a viable path to opportunity for all children.  These changes include paid federal leave for parents of newborns, high-quality childcare assurance, and universal preschool.  He will also discuss how the COVID-19 pandemic has magnified the effects of early disparities and review new research on how unconditional cash transfers supports brain development through increased brain activity associated with thinking and learning.
